Experience Neustrelitz! Culturally

Neustrelitz has had a theatre since 1755. Drama, opera, operetta, concerts and choir works are performed at today’s national theatre. Each summer Neustrelitz becomes the “residence town of the operetta” for several weeks when the Castle Grounds Festival shows great productions of popular classical operettas in front of a picturesque scenery and tens of thousands of people watching. The life of Queen Luise of Prussia has already become twice the topic of operetta premières. From May to October the neo-Gothic castle church turns into a plastic art gallery that presents important national and international sculptures from art collections and museums as well as contemporary studios. International and national films, concerts, readings and exhibitions can be seen at the Old Tiled Stoves Factory (“Alte Kachelofenfabrik”), an industrial monument with a special charm of its own. The German Dance Company – a traditional and at the same time very modern dancing theatre, the theatre on the isle of Helgoland at the town harbour and the “yard concerts” on the farm of the Poland family at Klein Trebbow – where bands and solo artists from all over the world are playing – are giving the cultural life of Neustrelitz its personal image.
